Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal / Senior Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Lab Test organization. This position is located in Melbourne, FL.
As the Lab Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and outfitting cutting-edge test environments for advanced air vehicle systems. You will lead the electrical design and integration efforts that turn concepts into fully functional labs — from cable interface assemblies and data-acquisition hardware to sensor suites that measure structural stress. In this role you will be responsible for electrical designs associated with of laboratory equipment, test, measurement, and handling equipment used on military aircraft.
Key Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Gathering of data, requirements development, interfacing with suppliers, and performing electrical design of cable assemblies, circuit breaker panels, junction boxes, Equipment Racks etc.Acting as manufacturing liaison during build process of your project to ensure overall quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved.Testing and integration of manufactured Equipment in Lab and on aircraftFollows documented processes, specifications and procedures that support the design and manufacture of electrical commodities.Basic Qualifications:
This requisition may be filled at a Principal Lab Design Engineer (Level 3) or Senior Principal Lab Design Engineer (Level 4) level based on the qualifications below.
Principal Lab Design Engineer (Level 3)
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 5 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related professional/military experience.Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Top Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.Professional experience using computer-aided design (CAD) software, NX10, and/or GD&TSenior Principal Lab Design Engineer (Level 4)
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 8 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related professional/military experience.Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Top Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.Professional experience using computer-aided design (CAD) software, NX10, and/or GD&TPreferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of communications hardware and protocol for Ethernet, serial, 1553Knowledge of electrical components, power design and considerationSystems integration of components in a laboratory environmentStrong proficiency in interpreting and creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent electrical design toolsBackground in manufacturing or liaison engineering to support assembly build-up and aircraft system testing.Experience developing and managing test requirementsHands-on experience with subsystem, payload, or systems integrationKnowledge of aircraft-type cable assemblies, MIL type wiring and components such as mil connectors, back shells, relays, switches, indicator lights, terminal junction system components, etc.Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
