Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Materials and Process (M&P) Engineer (level 3) or Senior Principal Materials and Process (M&P) Engineer (level 4) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Clearfield, UT.
In this role, you will be a part of an Integrated Product Team supporting production and new design releases. Responsibilities:
Build and revise material specifications and product specifications
Resolve material concerns for production operations including MRB evaluations
Develop novel solutions for design and manufacturing
Verify manufacturing limits and ensure specifications are maintained
Develop requirements for structural and chemical testing
Support root cause and corrective action requirement analysis
Our M&P team works independently but interacts constantly with other engineering groups and customers to achieve expectations. We’re empowered to make decisions but can draw upon corporate resources to support us when needed. Each member of the team is tasked with identifying ways to improve efficiency in the team in the pursuit of continuous improvement. We’re looking for a fellow self-starter who enjoys assessing and understanding risk to join us.
This role can be filled at the Principal Engineer or Sr Principal Engineer level depending on the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications:
Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science (BS) in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master of Science (MS) in a relevant STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience; OR a Ph.D. in a relevant STEM discipline and 1 year of related experience
Sr Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science (BS) in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of related experience; OR a Master of Science (MS) in a relevant STEM discipline and 6 years of related experience; OR a Ph.D. in a relevant STEM discipline and 4 years of related experience
Knowledge of or experience with composites and related materials (such as coatings, resins, epoxy or polyimide adhesives, prepregs, fabrics, etc.)
Familiarity with polymeric materials or composite test methods and process development, and qualification
Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Materials Science, Chemical, or Ceramic Engineering, or other closely related discipline
Experience in composite materials testing methods, procedures, failure modes, environmental effects, and bonded composite joints
Composite fabrication experience and planning
Experience supporting composite primary and secondary structures, metallic, vendor supplied material certifications, approved materials list, and support forensic activities as required
Experience or familiarity with composite processing techniques
Experience with production control systems (SAP/Visual Mfg/etc.)
Knowledge of or laboratory experience in materials characterization techniques (DSC, TGA, SEM, optical microscopy, mechanical testing, etc.)
Experience in working on business or engineering full life-cycle projects from project inception through launch

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 - $167,500.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
