This role is part of Alcon's Information Technology function, a team that delivers cutting-edge technology solutions to Alcon associates and customers to help our people and the world see brilliantly.The Principal I, Software Engineering (Science/Tech/Engineering Path), is primarily responsible for leading the design and development of software solutions, leveraging advanced technical expertise to influence engineering teams and the broader organization.

Key Responsibilities: 

Lead the design, development, and deployment of high-performance Java applications using Spring frameworks. Collaborate with product managers, architects, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Translate UI/UX designs into high-quality, responsive web interfaces.Guide and mentor a team of developers, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices. Drive code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the stack. Promote a culture of openness, innovation, and continuous learning within the team. 

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications: 

7–8 years of hands-on experience in Java development. 

Proven experience in leading teams and managing delivery. 

Ability to balance hands-on coding with leadership responsibilities

Deep expertise in Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, and related frameworks. Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and design patterns. Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+).Experience with modern frameworks/libraries such as Angular / React.Good understanding of responsive design and mobile-first developmentKnowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and ORM tools (e.g., Hibernate). Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD tools. Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills. Strong communication and leadership abilities.
