The Principal System Safety Engineer is to influence design for meeting safety expectations and requirements for our Northrop Grumman Products. The successful candidate will independently analyze and recommend design features that meet safety criteria in system design to control or eliminate hazards. The role includes active participation in the design of products/systems, associated support equipment and facilities. The role includes the creation of functional specifications and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems. The tasks include developing safety documents, as required, to support customer and test/operational range requirements and performing audits of operational areas and reporting on the effectiveness of system safety program. The role includes evaluating the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost-effective program. The candidate will have extensive expertise in the application of MIL-STD-882E, software development, design development, or similar systems engineering experience.
The candidate will have experience in generation or review of design artifacts to support System Safety analyses utilized in maturing weapons system design for safety and support flight test and flight worthiness of complex systems.
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ 5 years of experience with a Bachelor of Science degree, 3 years with a Masters, 1 years with a Doctorate degree in science, engineering, applied mathematics, computer
+ Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Software Engineering and System Test organization to ensure acceptable safety critical function verification
+ Strong working knowledge of Military systems safety MIL-STD-882(E), NAS 411, NAS 411-1, MIL-STD-1472
+ Demonstrated ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards
+ Experience with requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification and validation
+ Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) and Hazard Tracking
+ Experience with creating System Safety Program Plans, Health Hazard Assessment Reports, Hazardous Material Management Plans/Reports and Safety Assessment Reports
+ Active Secret clearance
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Familiar with Department of Defense (DoD) system capability development e.g., Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase and sustainment phase
+ Associate Safety Professional (ASP) / Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certificate

Salary Range: $105,400.00 - $158,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
