Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network – Lab Network Engineer (25-365) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Located in Colorado Springs, CO, this role plays a vital part in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Relocation assistance is not provided for this position, and this role requires on-site work with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is the central element of the Missile Defense System. It is a critical operational system that allows the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the development of the battle collectively, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to accomplish global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by globally and regionally networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to enhance performance. C2BMC is an essential part of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and validate all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

The candidate will serve as the primary Network Engineer supporting the C2BMC Program. In this role, they will function as both a Network Engineer and Developer, assisting with network build-out and deployments to the operational environment as needed. The candidate will collaborate within an agile Scrum team and plan work based on customer requirements and program contractual obligations and agreements.

Essential Functions:

Must be a proven network engineer with hands-on mid-level experience and knowledge of network design, development, and testing methodologiesExperience with capturing and deciphering packets (50% of testing efforts involve packet capture and analysis), Network Address Translation (NAT), Network Timing, and the ability to read technical network diagramsA self-motivated individual who possesses strong verbal/written communication skillsMust have previous experience with presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio drawing toolsMust have experience working collaboratively in a team environment with other highly motivated network engineers, as well as independently on large field projectsProven and demonstrated network traffic analysis, diagnostic, and troubleshooting experienceProven and demonstrated network traffic analysis, diagnostic, and troubleshooting experienceExperience working with Firewalls and IPS/IDS

A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant experience may be considered as an alternative to a degreeApplicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to startA DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) is required to startMust be familiar with the following:TCP/IP ModelOSI ModelMulticastFirewallsRouting Protocols BGP and OSPFSpecific experience with Juniper and/or Cisco networking equipment requiredExperience in UDP multicast, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designsUnderstanding of standard DOD security practices, such as STIG compliance and system accreditation implementation effortsIndustry vendor certification from:Juniper (JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE) is a must, and from Cisco (CCNA, CCNP) is a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with C2BMC network is highly preferredKnowledge, skill sets, or experience using protocol analyzers or sniffers (such as Wireshark) is highly desiredFamiliarity with virtualization is highly recommendedExperience with Agile development and related testing methodologiesKnowledge of automated testing frameworks, Python, Ansible, Chef, or PuppetSkills in manipulating large data sets, spreadsheet analysis, and related toolsAbility to develop action plans based on data analysis, document deficiency reports, and present analysis results and plans of action both orally and in writing (e.g., slides, annotated slides, test reports)Hands-on experience with WAN optimizers, TACLANEs, and optical transport equipmentA strong understanding of JUNOS is preferredPrevious experience in authentication & encryption methods/capabilities (TACACS+, Active Directory, GEM-X), Virtualization technologies such as:VMWare, vCenter, and vSphere

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Primary Level Salary Range: $91,200.00 - $136,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
