About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer.


In this role, you will:

Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groupsLead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinkingTranslate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutionsProvide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutionsMaintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organizationStrategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership


Required Qualifications:

7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

Strong proficiency in architecting and designing GenAI, Agentic AI, API ecosystems, cloud‑native applications, and microservice/serverless architectures.Deep expertise in enterprise architecture, portfolio management, and designing large‑scale digital platforms built for very high‑volume transactional workloads.Advanced skills in building, optimizing, and scaling infrastructure for mission‑critical and AI‑driven platforms.Hands‑on proficiency with leading AI/ML tools, frameworks, and cloud ecosystem capabilities—especially across GCP and Azure.Strong ability to define non‑functional requirements, assess architectural risks, and recommend mitigation strategies to stakeholders.Demonstrated capability to drive continuous improvement, modernize technology stacks, and address technical debt while balancing long‑term architectural vision with short‑term business needs.Proven ability to lead technology innovation, influence engineering direction, and champion emerging technologies to deliver meaningful business outcomes.Expertise in translating business and functional requirements into high‑quality architectural documentation and design artifacts.Strong awareness of industry trends, with the ability to evaluate new technologies and guide product teams on adoption strategies.Excellent communication skills for articulating complex technical concepts to senior leadership and engineering teams.Proficiency in designing and developing API‑based applications using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and cloud‑native patterns.Advanced understanding and application of design patterns, cloud‑native principles, microservice patterns, and architectural best practices.Ability to mentor, coach, and elevate engineering teams toward high performance and architectural excellence.
