Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Environmental Health and Safety Engineer for the Sunnyvale, California manufacturing site.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations to determine applicability and impact for site Develops, implements, and maintains safety programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigationConducts job hazard assessments and recommends appropriate hazard control approachesOversees occupational safety programs such as: electrical, lockout-tagout, machine guarding, material handling (cranes, aerial lifts, and forklifts), contractor safety, confined space, fall protection, cryogenics, incident investigations, and roboticsPerforms analysis of health and safety data to identify trends, assess program effectiveness, and develop program/process improvementsReviews new construction, demolition and renovation plans for EHS compliance aspectsCompile, interpret and present various KPIsConducts internal compliance inspections to identify actions necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirementsPartners with management to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programsPartners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects Communicates safety information to employees, management, and other stakeholders and collaborates with cross-functional teams on safety initiativesInterfaces with senior management, the site EHS Committee, and the Emergency Response, and Crisis Management teamsProvides timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to internal stakeholders, electronic databases and regulatory agenciesWrites and updates EHS plans and proceduresCoordinates EHS training for employees and conducts instructor-led EHS training. Supports the site’s environmental, occupational health, and fire protection programs.Ability to effectively communicate with technical staff, customers, regulatory agencies, field operations and contractors.Maintains current knowledge of changes in safety regulations, standards, and best practices and updates employer’s safety programs and procedures accordinglyBasic Qualifications for Level 3:
Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, occupational safety, or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience; or a Master of Science in the same disciplines with 3 or more years of relevant work experienceExtensive experience with managing Hazardous Waste/Materials programsExperience in managing underground/above ground tank programsExperience conducting incident investigations, personal protective equipment assessments, and job hazard analysis and EHS trainingExperience managing remediation projects (ex. lead paint, asbestos)Experience with managing various EHS compliance programs (with a specific emphasis on occupational safety programs, such as electrical, lockout-tagout, material handling, contractor safety, confined space, fall protection, and cryogenics) based on the review and interpretation of EHS regulationsAbility to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.U.S. Citizenship requiredPreferred Qualifications for Level 3:
Current HAZWOPER, DOT, RCRA and CA Title 22 (DTSC) certificatesMinimum 1 year managing a hazardous waste programCertified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)Experience in industrial waste water treatmentCertified Safety Professional (CSP)What We Can Offer You:
