Principal Accountant, Financial Reporting
Ameriprise Financial Services is seeking a Principal Accountant of Financial Reporting to join our team! As the Principal Accountant, you will be responsible for preparation and timely completion of statutory financial statements and disclosures for filing with State regulators and the NAIC and monitoring changes in accounting/reporting guidance and new transactions and events. You will ensure quality and accuracy of disclosures and are in compliance with insurance statutory accounting principles.

Key Responsibilities

Prepares life insurance company statutory annual and quarterly financial statements, and other reports, for filing with state insurance regulators and the NAIC

Provides insightful qualitative analysis around regulatory and legal entity reporting

Teams with internal and external partners to understand prioritize and review specialized/complex analysis, reports and accounting transactions and implement any changes needed for reporting

Maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting

Complete requests from and communicate with external auditors and examiners/regulators

Ad hoc projects

Assists in the review of various state and insurance company filing


Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

5 or more years’ experience - ideally with regulatory filings

Proven ability to lead through change and handle detailed work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Strong attention to detail and ability to problem solve

Strategic and independent thinker with ability to quickly adapt to change

Strong oral and written communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

Accounting degree

CPA license

Life insurance company statutory reporting experience

Ability to navigate NAIC statutory accounting and reporting guidance

Proficiency with Workday General Ledger

Demonstrated decision-making skills, ability to prioritize tasks to understand the impact to the business and develop best practices

Strategic and independent thinker with the ability to quickly adapt to change

Base Pay Salary

The estimated base salary for this role is $85,700 - $115,700/ year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
