The Opportunity
Stantec’s New York City office is seeking a Principal level, Senior Civil Engineer with 25 plus years of progressive experience to lead the pursuit and delivery of complex urban infrastructure across the NYC metropolitan area. You will be a practice leader and Senior Engineer responsible for technical excellence, multidiscipline coordination, and QA/QC across portfolios; you will also cultivate and leverage relationships with NYC agencies, clients, developers, and peer/competitor firms to expand Stantec’s footprint in the region.
In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse, multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and project managers to deliver high-profile, transformative transportation projects throughout New York and the Northeast. Stantec’s New York City team has led several exciting projects, including the NYEDC Lower Manhattan–The Battery, NYCEDC East Midtown Greenway, LIRR Third Track Design-Build, and NYSDOT Long Island Welcome Centers.
Our New York City office offers strong client exposure, access to statewide and municipal transportation programs, and clear pathways for continued professional growth and leadership.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee portfolios as Project Executive/Technical Lead, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality, with rigorous QA/QC across your projects and peer reviews across the practice.
- Collaborate with NY/CT/NJ transportation leadership to advance integrated roadway planning and engineering efforts, helping establish consistent processes and identifying gaps in regional roadway expertise.
- Serve as Principal in Charge, Project Manager, and/or Engineer of Record (EOR) on multidiscipline civil projects (streetscapes, roadways, transit/rail, waterfronts, site/campus development), directing standards, calculations, and sealed deliverables; lead technical reviews of design components (geometrics, grading/drainage, utilities, stormwater, traffic/MPT, and constructability).
- Drive strong financial performance by applying rigorous Project Management principles—controlling financial impact, minimizing at‑risk work, and leveraging project controls effectively.
- Chair coordination meetings with clients and agency stakeholders; secure approvals and guide permitting strategies.
- Activate and grow trusted relationships across NYCDOT, NYCDEP, NYCDDC, NYCEDC, NYCDOB, and regional partners (MTA agencies, Port Authority), advancing pursuits and programmatic frameworks.
- Lead account planning and capture for high value pursuits; develop win strategies, teaming (including competitor/peer firms where strategic), scopes, budgets, and narratives.
- Support bi‑monthly progress tracking on key account net revenue, sales, and business development spending to drive disciplined and predictable account performance.
- Grow a high performing team; foster strong people leadership by mentoring emerging leaders, supporting supervisor–direct report alignment, and contributing to career development pathways.
Stantec’s Transportation group provides services to both private and public sector clients, facilitating opportunities to collaborate with our other teams across all the United States and in Canada and support their project needs as opportunities arise. If you’re ready to make an impact and grow with a dynamic team, we’d love to hear from you.
