We are seeking an experienced Principal, Business Development professional to lead our Think Big Initiative at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Japan. This strategic role will shape the future of both Japan's society and AWS's growth through innovative partnerships and transformative initiatives.
Key job responsibilities
Strategic Initiative Development:
- Conceptualize and develop ideas that contribute to Japan's societal advancement while driving AWS's growth
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for inorganic growth through strategic partnerships, industry collaborations, and customer engagements
- Design and implement large-scale initiatives that create lasting impact across multiple sectors
Leadership and Stakeholder Management:
- Drive high-impact initiatives as the primary owner, engaging directly with C-level executives and key stakeholders
- Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams across Sales, Technology, Public Policy, Legal, Finance, and Infrastructure
- Build and maintain relationships with senior management, ensuring alignment with AWS's strategic objectives
Innovation and Culture:
- Establish frameworks for calculated risk-taking and experimental approaches
- Champion and foster a "Think Big" culture within AWS Japan
- Develop and implement best practices for innovation and strategic growth
Partnership Development:
- Structure and negotiate complex business agreements with major organizations
- Create and execute partnership strategies that drive mutual value
- Orchestrate multi-stakeholder initiatives across various industry sectors
About the team
At AWS, we collaborate deeply with System Integrators, Distributors, Value Added Resellers, Telcos and other services providers to provide end to end digital and business transformation value to our customers. Many of our strategic partners have holistic businesses including IT and consulting services, software products, re-selling, and other related businesses with IT infrastructure requirements. These partners typically have large customer base, multi-year contracts, and long-term relationships with our customers, and a mix of business units providing different value propositions.

Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience
- 7+ years of professional or military experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a founder or executive focused on related segments, or as a practice leader or business unit owner
- Experience selling to Fortune 1000 or Global 2000 organizations
- Experience influencing internal and external stakeholders
- Experience leading cross-functional groups to debate tradeoffs, drive alignment and make high-judgment decisions related to critical partnerships/projects
- Experience structuring and negotiating complex agreements and leading cross functional groups to orchestrate and successfully complete deals or experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
