Press Assistant
Job Title: Press AssistantJob Description

As a Press Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our press runs. You will be responsible for maintaining market identification, operating and maintaining robotic and stacker machines, and ensuring the overall quality of skids. Your keen eye for detail will be essential in identifying and reporting any print defects. Additionally, you will coordinate paper waste removal and assist with various tasks during press downtime.

ResponsibilitiesMaintain proper market identification and check mastheads and skid tickets throughout press runs.Operate and maintain robotic and stacker machines.Stack signatures and ensure quality of skids.Identify and report any print defects to relevant personnel.Coordinate paper waste removal in the pressroom.Complete work assignments during make-ready and press downtime.Assist with webbing up the printing press.Stock presses with necessary supplies.Assist with removal of waste ink, used printing plates, and other press side waste.Assist with changing slip-sheets at printing units.Perform manual signature stacking when required.Clean press water systems and change filters.Perform Press Operator duties as needed.Complete preventive maintenance and initiate work orders.Develop job skills and equipment knowledge for advancement.Monitor product waste.
Essential SkillsExperience in machine operating.General production skills.Mechanically inclined.
Additional Skills & QualificationsAbility to stand, walk, use hands, and communicate effectively.Capable of reaching with hands and arms, climbing, and balancing.Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.Specific vision abilities such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work Environment

The work environment involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals that require special handling. Employees may also encounter vibration, high places, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is typically high. Employees must be comfortable in a physically demanding environment, with reasonable accommodations made for individuals with disabilities.

This is a Contract position based out of Durham, North Carolina.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
