The School of Integrative Biological and Chemical Sciences ( SIBCS ) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley ( UTRGV ) is looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to work in the field of molecular plant-nematode interaction. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work on setting up plant-nematode interaction assays, screening germplasm collection, chemical ecology, and microbial metagenomic, genomic, and metabolomic analyses of plant-nematode interaction. The Postdoctoral Fellow scholar will also have ample opportunities to participate in various ongoing research projects. We are a plant molecular biology, biotechnology, and genomics lab. The UTRGV is a Hispanic-Serving institute located in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. The PI’s lab is located on the Edinburg campus. Edinburg is located in South Texas and is a low-cost city compared to many cities in the US.
Description of Duties
+ To establish and routinely conduct plant-nematode interaction assays. To investigate the chemical ecology of plant-nematode interaction.
+ To conduct microbial metagenomic and metabolomic analysis.
+ To conduct genomic analyses of plant-nematode interaction.
+ Mentoring graduate- and undergraduate students in the lab.
+ Regular lab maintenance, taking care of experimental plants in the growth chambers and greenhouse.
+ Publishing data in high-impact journals, actively participating in grant writing, and preparing reports for the funding agency.

Required Education
A Ph.D. in any branch of life sciences/ plant biology from a reputed university/institute, with a very strong background in plant-nematode interaction. Recent Ph.D. graduates and those who have submitted their thesis but have not yet been awarded the degree may also apply. However, the Ph.D. degree must be awarded before the position’s start date.

Required Experience
+ A thorough understanding of plant-nematode interactions is essential.
+ Excellent expertise in the chemical ecology of root-knot nematodes, particularly in understanding their role in modulating nematode herbivory in crop plants.
+ A self-motivated, detail-oriented, hardworking individual with the ability to work both independently and in a group.
Preferred Experience
+ Candidates with demonstrated experience in microbial metagenomic and metabolomic analyses will be given preference.
+ Prior experience in Agricultural Biotechnology.
+ At least three publications in related fields.
Equipment
Use of microscopes to detect and identify nematodes. Use of statistical software.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/research environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

The position is for 2 years,initial appointment will be for one year and will be renewed annually based on grant funding.
