The research focuses on the area of turbulence and transport, via the development of turbulence diagnostics: correlation ECE radiometry and fluctuation reflectometry. Will design and lead experiments on AUG at with an emphasis on the interaction of turbulence with fast-ions, sawteeth, and MHD. Will participate in validation and integrated modeling efforts in the AUG program. Will be expected to make original research contributions to the AUG program, produce work for publication, support the AUG team, and present work at scientific conferences. Job Requirements REQUIRED: General knowledge of fusion-grade plasma physics; a Ph.D. (or its equivalent) in plasma physics or closely related science and engineering discipline at the time of appointment; experience working with fusion plasma diagnostics (development, operation, and data analysis); experience with fast-ion physics measurements or fluctuation measurements, such as BES, CECE, fluctuation reflectometry, GPI, or other similar measurements in tokamaks and stellarators; excellent communication skills; and the willingness to work in a large team alongside undergraduate and graduate students and project scientists. PREFERRED: Experience and fast-ion physics modeling & simulation, or, turbulence simulation and/or transport modeling; and outstanding scientific research ability. This position will be full-time at the Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) in Garching, Germany. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal depending on satisfactory performance and continued funding.
