Point of Care Testing (POCT) Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician (MT/MLT), Queen's Medical Center Punchbowl (DLS Oahu)
RESPONSIBILITIES Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc. (DLS) is Hawaii’s largest locally owned and operated clinical and anatomic pathology laboratory. DLS is considered a leader in the Hawaii, Guam and Saipan communities we serve. As an integral part of the patient care team, DLS utilizes state-of-the-art testing and value-based informatics to promote optimal patient care and positively impact patient outcomes. **_SCHEDULE_** Regular Full-Time Position Must be available Sunday through Saturday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm to include holidays. Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs. **HIRING RANGE** $34.00 to $42.65 hourly Actual pay commensurate with experience May be eligible for Relocation Assistance May be eligible for Sign On bonus **_JOB SUMMARY_** Provides technical expertise and oversight to ensure accurate and efficient Point of Care Testing (POCT) practices across multiple units. Supports nurses and non-licensed staff by delivering training, competency assessments and guidance on laboratory testing policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. Serves as a technical resource, collaborates with clinical and IT teams and follows safety and confidentiality protocols to maintain high-quality patient care. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** 1. Serves as the technical resource for POCT across multiple units. (50%) + Collaborates with nursing, laboratory, and IT teams to align workflows and implement system changes. + Provides education and training to units and designated superusers on proper use of instruments and documentation. + Conducts training and education on new testing procedures and POCT for clinical staff across multiple units. + Reviews and evaluates all QC and instrument maintenance at defined intervals. + Provides instrument troubleshooting, maintenance coordination and vendor interactions. + Provides support for POCT related information systems, including implementation and validation of new middleware, software, test system and firmware. 2. Reviews and monitors POCT quality assurance (QA) activities at assigned location(s) including hospitals and non-ambulatory clinics. (40%) + Assists with development of quality and performance standards with Technical Coordinator, Lab Manager, Unit Managers and Laboratory Director. + Implements and monitors appropriate systems to ensure accuracy, validity and confidentiality of departmental processes and documented. + Assists with addressing instrument and/or operator problems and consults Technical Coordinator, Lab Manager and Unit Managers appropriately. + Reports QA activities to Laboratory Director, Lab Manager, Unit Managers and appropriate individuals/committees. + Conducts regular audits of the units and provides recommendations, education and training. Collaborates with units/departments to develop and implement action plan to address deficiencies. + Conducts validation and implementation of POCT test processes. + Performs QA studies as needed for test systems such as calibration verification and instrument comparison. + Reviews and revises training and competency assessment documents. + Assists with developing procedures for new and updated POCT equipment. + Provides data to hospital department managers regarding QA performance. 3. Performs activities to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements. (10%) + Maintains, updates and guides employees to follow SOPs. + Supports completion of competency assessments, proficiency testing and investigations. + Supports laboratory inspection and accreditation activities. + May develop, implement and maintain quality control and assurance programs. + May serve as Technical Consultant to meet CLIA requirements. Refer to Laboratory Personnel and Licensure Requirements policy (QI- 11-PER- 01) for performance assessment and regulatory responsibilities. 4. Performs other duties as assigned. 5. Potential for inadvertent skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other infectious materials. + Work environment includes conditions common to administrative offices. + Generally works in an indoor, air-conditioned area. **_QUALIFICATIONS_** **_Education:_** _•_ _Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology or Associate degree in medical laboratory technology/technician from an accredited institution._ **_Experience:_** _Required:_ + _MT: Two (2) years Medical Technologist experience._ + _MLT: Four (4) years Medical Laboratory Technician experience._ **_Certification:_** _Required:_ + _MT: Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) recognized the Hawaii Department of Health Laboratories Division._ + _MLT: Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician by an agency recognized the Hawaii Department of Health Laboratories Division._ **_Licensure:_** _Required:_ + _MT: Hawaii State license as a Medical Technologist._ + _MLT: Hawaii State license as a Medical Laboratory Technician._ **_Skills:_** + Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and written form. + Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team. + Excellent customer service skills. + Effective coaching skills. + Exhibit effective decision making with good judgement. + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar application. + Ability to work in a fast pace and high-volume environment. + Knowledge of quality assurance practices and procedures. + Proven ability to problem solve, troubleshoot and provides solutions. + Familiar working with a Laboratory Information System (LIS). **_Other Qualifications:_** Required: + Able to travel between business locations.
