About the team and role:
We are the eBay Frameworks Team!
We’re looking for a Platform Engineer to join our Application Platform team in Austin, TX.
You’ll help run and evolve our Event Subscription Platform (ESP), the backbone for push notifications at eBay.
Your work will keep messages flowing reliably and at scale, build the systems that deliver real-time updates to eBay’s partners and sellers.
You will collaborate closely with our San Jose, CA and Shanghai based counterparts to deliver on the product roadmap and enhance our platform.

What you will accomplish:
Design and ship scalable, highly available services for event subscriptions.
Own operations: investigate and fix notification issues in production.
Keep the platform secure and current with upgrades and vulnerability fixes.
Automate routine maintenance to reduce toil and improve reliability.
Write clean, maintainable Java using Spring Boot and solid OOP/design patterns.
Build and operate event pipelines with Apache Kafka.
Partner with teams across eBay to understand needs and deliver solutions.
What you will bring:
3+ years of software engineering experience.
Strong Java fundamentals with Spring Boot, OOP, and data structures.
Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar messaging systems.
Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Maven, Jenkins).
Understanding of RESTful APIs and deploying to Kubernetes.
Curiosity, ownership, and a focus on reliability and automation.

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
$98,000 - $173,600Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
