This is a PART-TIME position located in Gameti, NT.  This is NOT a rotational/fly-in position and the successful candidate must live in Gameti, NT.

 

Under the general supervision and direction of the Manager, Plant Operations Diesel the incumbent is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the electrical generating units, plant and the respective auxiliary equipment at the Diesel site.

Responsibilities Starts and stops diesel engines at the Gameti plant, synchronizes and disconnects generator to and from system buss manually or using Programmable Logic Computer (PLC).Monitors and operates electrical generating unit, diesel plants, and auxiliary equipment as per operational requirements, and manufacture’s recommendations. Logs all necessary readings and prepares equipment for standby condition.Informs Central Control Centre personnel as to any unusual operational conditions that may affect overall system performance.Assist in system restoration following a system disturbance in co-ordination with Control Centre Operator and under the direction of the Manager, Plant Operations Diesel or the Manager on Call.De-energizes and isolates/energizes and returns to service; unit, plant and their respective auxiliary equipment as per Corporation Work Protection Code procedures.Performs and assists with preventative maintenance and overhauls on units and plant auxiliary equipment, as per preventative maintenance schedule.Attempts to identify and rectify any unsafe or potentially hazardous condition at or around the work site. Notifies Manager or person in charge if unable to correct the problem.Relays any information that affects the overall operation or availability of equipment to the operators, cross shifts and Control Centre Operators.Reads and interprets single line diagrams.Inspects and maintains the tank farm, fuel transfer line, pump houses and monitors fuel tank levels. Receives, inspects and logs any fuel or lube oil deliveries to plant sites. Report any unusual conditions immediately to Supervisor and immediately report any spillage of hazardous materials to Manager and spill line.Maintains a good working relationship with the public and responds to inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.Monitors, assists and reports progress of outside contractors.Reviews and maintains plant and substation, system and inspection logs by completing daily, weekly, and monthly plant and unit reports.Cleans and maintains buildings and grounds by performing duties such as, but not limited to: wiping down and cleaning equipment, clearing entrances/exits of snow / debris, proper storage of combustible materials, proper dispose of all waste materials, tools and equipment properly stored, floors swept and washed, equipment and buildings are painted as required, inspect / replace fire fighting equipment and service / test emergency lighting and exit signs. Perform basic road/yard maintenance and snow removal.Other duties as required. Qualifications High School Diploma or related experience.  Equivalencies may be considered.Must have a minimum six (6) months working in an industrical setting, preferably related to power generation.Related journeyperson certificate would be an asset.Good planning, organizational and communications skills.Ability to interpret drawings, read off blueprints, diagrams, and specifications of a variety of types of mechanical equipment, including manufacturer's manuals and parts books.Proficient in computer applications such as email, spreadsheets, and word processing software.Ability to work with minimal supervision and participate as a member of a team, maintaining open and reliable communications with co workers to ensure team production and efficient operation.Must have a valid NWT Class 5 driver's license or higher.Must provide satisfactory criminal record check 

This is a bargaining unit part-time position, 6 hours per day (30 hours per week) Monday to Friday.  Salary for this position ranges from $42.96 - $52.18/hour, plus location allowance of approximately $16,159 per annum.
