Plant Operator 2 (1 Ticket)
Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent, full-time position of Plant Operator 2 (1 Ticket) at Sackville Sports Stadium with the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Building Operations, this position will be responsible for safe and efficient ice making, pool maintenance, building operation services, maintenance of ice surfaces, building maintenance and setting up for special events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Ensure the safe and efficient operations of the facility refrigeration plant equipmentPerform designated maintenance and operational inspections of refrigeration equipmentComplete appropriate plant log sheets and the physical plant daily log bookEnsure refrigeration plant, ammonia detection alarm systems are on in the remote monitor modeRecord any machinery malfunctions, changes in operation conditions, maintenance performed on equipment or machinery in the daily log bookPerform ice maintenance, including installation, resurfacing, operating and maintaining ice resurfacing machineMaintain water chemistry balance in indoor poolsMaintain pool equipment including pumps, filters, heaters and feedersSweep, backwash and vacuum poolsCleaning of entire arena including washrooms, dressing rooms, dasher boards, etc.Security of equipment in the arena and the building itself.Perform general repairs to complex, arena equipment including goal nets and facility equipmentSecurity of equipment in the complex.General repairs to complex and facility equipment.Inspect and maintain boards.Maintain dressing rooms and other areas within the arena.Other related assigned duties including those of Utility workersQUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:Grade 12 or equivalentA valid NS Department of Labour 2nd Class Refrigeration License RequiredValid NS Class 5 Driver’s LicenseMust hold a valid Certified Pool/ Spa Operator course (or willing to obtain in first year)Minimum 2 years Proven experience within arena, pool and building environments in a system maintenance capacity which would carry out general repairs to the facility and equipmentExperience with ice maintenance which includes installation, ice resurfacing, operating and maintaining ice resurfacing machineCommercial Pool experience would be an assetMust have annual training and fit testing for self contained breathing apparatus, as requiredTechnical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:Staff maintains and adheres to all applicable Government Regulations and Acts relating to the operation of the Sackville Sports StadiumExperience operating ice resurfacing equipmentValid WHMIS, Emergency First Aid, CPR Accreditation or willingness to obtainKnowledge of required safety procedures and work practicesMust have a good attendance and work recordMust have excellent customer service skillsMust have availability to handle stressful situationsMust have ability to work independently and as a member of a teamMust have ability to work safely and report any workplace hazardsMust have ability and skills to effectively interact with the general public and internal clientsMust ensure staff are properly trained on the use and safety elements of all equipment/processesSecurity Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

SALARY: $27.80 per hour, as per CUPE 108 Collective Agreement
