Job Title: Plant Layout Design Engineer We are seeking an experienced Plant Layout Design Engineer to design and optimize equipment layouts for the fresh produce industry. This role involves collaborating closely with sales and engineering teams to develop project specifications and evaluate engineered solutions. The ideal candidate will utilize computer-assisted design and drafting software to create detailed layouts and ensure that design specifications meet industry standards. Responsibilities + Design equipment layout solutions using appropriate material handling equipment for tipping, washing, treatment, grading, sorting, packing, and palletizing fresh produce. + Review and validate sales layouts to ensure specifications, volume, and equipment selection meet requirements. + Collaborate with sales and engineering teams to finalize project specifications, equipment layout, and concept evaluations. + Utilize computer-assisted design/drafting software to develop designs and details. + Use design validation software as required. + Communicate with customers, vendors, sales engineers, and fabrication, assembly, automation, and installation managers regarding project-related work. + Investigate new design processes and tools with the Product Teams and document new procedures. + Communicate project decisions and deliverables with the Project Engineer, Technical Sales Engineer, and Project Manager. + Promote financial benefits to clients by providing evidence on return of investment. + Train and mentor junior staff. + Plan and obtain additional work authorizations for scope changes. + Perform other duties as necessary. Essential Skills + Proficiency in Solidworks, AutoCad, Mechanical Design, and Drafting. + Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a Technical Field. + Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a related field. + Experience with plant design, material handling conveyors, and processing equipment in the fresh produce industry. + Experience with 2D & 3D design software. + Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. + Must be eligible for a valid passport and possess a valid driver’s license. + Knowledge of project management, including cost, schedule, and quality. + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn new processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with optical sorting, traceability, food safety, automation, and mechanical aspects related to agriculture. + Excellent customer service skills. + Self-motivated and innovative with the ability to work under pressure and meet short deadlines. Work Environment The role requires working Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day, with a flexible start time but finishing by 5:30 PM. Occasional travel to customer sites is required, estimated at four times a year, including potential travel to Canada or Mexico. The engineering team is a collaborative and close-knit group, and this is a customer-facing role. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Traver, CA.
