Placement Director, Construction (Sydney or Melbourne) Are you interested in becoming a key member of a high‑performing construction placement team, working on some of Australia’s most significant infrastructure and built‑environment projects? This role will see you partnering with a diverse portfolio of clients – including leading Contractors, asset‑owning Principals and Government entities – to design and deliver market‑leading risk transfer solutions. The Opportunity As Placement Director, Construction, you will operate from within Aon’s Construction Industry Practice Group (IPG) and you will be reporting to the Placement Leader for the Construction IPG. You will be a senior placement broker and technical resource for our largest construction clients, shaping placement strategy across the Australian market and through our Global Broking Centres in London and Singapore. You will be at the forefront of complex placements for: Contractors delivering major projects Principals and asset owners across transport, mining, social and commercial infrastructure Federal, state and local Government agencies with complex risk profiles At Aon, our Placement team leverages insurance markets locally and globally to obtain the best results for our clients. This is achieved through delivering insurance placement solutions designed specifically to meet the unique needs and risks faced by our clients across a broad range of industries. What the day will look like Key responsibilities will include - Providing technical advice and placement guidance to the Global & Corporate segment, with a particular focus on complex construction risks for Contractors, Principals and Government clients Designing and executing placement strategies for large project and annual construction programs, including Contract Works, Delay in Start‑Up/ALOP, Construction Liability and related lines Advising on strategy and tactics to achieve agreed revenue, margin and client satisfaction goals Coordinating the broader placement team to deliver cohesive risk transfer strategies across all relevant product lines Leading negotiations with underwriters and senior executives within our carrier partners to secure optimal terms for complex construction placements Contributing to and implementing our market engagement strategies, ensuring strong, strategic relationships with local and international markets Shaping and refining Aon’s policy structures and wordings to address emerging construction risks and client‑specific requirements Creating and sharing insights with clients, carriers and colleagues using Aon’s data & analytics platforms to inform decision‑making and differentiate our offering How this opportunity is different As part of Aon’s Construction Industry Practice, you will join a team of authentic, smart professionals who are passionate about delivering insight and value to our construction clients. Skills and experience that will lead to success Deep understanding of commercial insurance products and policy wordings, with a strong focus on Construction lines (e.g. Contract Works, DSU/ALOP, Construction Liability, etc…) Proven experience structuring and placing complex construction or infrastructure programs for a varied client base Demonstrable track record in clearly articulating and delivering insurer engagement strategies for large or technically challenging risks Outstanding negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently at senior levels with clients, markets and internal stakeholders A resilient, proactive approach, comfortable working in an ever‑changing environment with competing priorities and deadlines Strong analytical capability – able to interpret data, portfolio performance and market trends and translate them into clear recommendations A developed insurer network at all levels and the ability to maintain and strengthen strategic market relationships How we support our colleagues In addition to our comprehensive benefits package, we encourage an inclusive workforce.
