Pipefitter - San Diego, CA Job Description

As a Pipefitter, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining ships' piping systems, including steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil lines. You will follow blueprints, layouts, and work orders, utilizing hand tools and shop machines.

ResponsibilitiesPlan the layout of pipe sections, ensuring conformance to specifications and accounting for obstructions.Cut and bore holes in bulkheads and decks for pipe installation.Operate shop machines to cut and thread pipes and pipe fittings, including valves, traps, and thermostats.Bend pipes to specified shapes using pipe-bending fixtures.Bolt or weld brackets to support pipe systems.Connect pipes to fixtures such as heat exchangers, pumps, tanks, and other ship equipment.Repair, pack, and adjust valves.Test installed systems for leaks and ensure they meet specifications.Perform other related tasks as assigned, which may become essential to the position.Essential SkillsMinimum of 3 years of experience in pipefitting.Knowledge of basic marine piping systems and blueprint readings.Proficiency in silver-brazing procedures and military specifications.Ability to perform marine pipefitting, bending, burning, and read blueprints with exact tolerances.Proficient in fabrication, installation, and testing of marine piping systems.Additional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge of fitting processes and procedures.Ability to work independently and read blueprints and spool sheets.Work EnvironmentThe environment involves setting up work areas with appropriate tools and materials, either in the shop or onboard ships. The role includes cutting, bending, welding, brazing, grinding, and burning pipes for shipboard installation, as well as inspecting and testing piping systems.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract-To-Hire position based out of San Diego, California.Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.00/hr.
