This is a leadership role for the Pilot Plant & facilities team at the global chocolate R&D site in Bournville, UK. 
 
This role leads the Pilot Plant & Facilities Team at the global Chocolate R&D site in Bournville. The team is responsible for the management, operation, and continuous development of the chocolate and cocoa pilot plant facilities, with a clear ambition to build and sustain a world-class pilot plant that supports current and future R&D and business needs. 
 
The role provides strategic, technical, and people leadership across pilot plant operations, capital investment, maintenance, facilities, and site safety, while ensuring full compliance with health, safety, food safety, quality, and environmental standards. 
 
How You Will Contribute 
 
Leading a large multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for four main areas of work: 
 
• Pilot Plant production - Develop and motivate a multi-disciplined team to manage, plan & control the day-to-day global pilot plant operation, supporting the ever challenging needs of the global & regional R&D chocolate teams. 
 
• Capital project management – Investing in Pilot Plant equipment and infrastructure to enable R&D to develop Chocolate products and processes to meet business needs and aim towards turning our facility into a world class pilot plant facility. 
 
• Pilot Plant maintenance & continual development – Lead team that maintains the Pilot Plant assets in an operational state, modifying, adapting and improving existing processes.  
 
• Facility & safety management – Managing the Health & Safety of the Pilot Plant, operating a safe system of work for all employees and external contractors. Ensuring the delivery of day-to-day operational objectives and always providing fully functioning facilities and ensuring adherence and compliance with systems procedures and legislation. 


What You Will Bring

Education 
 
Degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline. 
 
Experience & Knowledge 
 

Extensive experience with food process technologies within R&D and/or manufacturing environments. 

 

Strong background in pilot plant and facility management, including maintenance and continuous improvement. 

 

Proven leadership of large, multi-disciplinary teams with a focus on performance, coaching, and capability development. 

 

Solid expertise in process engineering, food safety, product and process design, and commercialization. 

 

Broad technical understanding of food processes, ingredients, technologies, and formulations. 

 

Strong business acumen with the ability to integrate R&D, manufacturing, and commercial strategies. 

 

Demonstrated success influencing senior stakeholders and managing complex internal and external partnerships. 

 

Clear and effective communication skills, enabling collaboration across functions and geographies. 

 

Strong knowledge of HACCP, food safety, environmental, legal, and regulatory frameworks. 

 

Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, complex, and evolving environment while managing multiple priorities.
