For more information, please visit the following link: https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/benefits/ **Responsibilities** This position works independently in accordance with methods and practices of the medical profession and established administrative policies as a fully trained, Board certified/eligible physician under the general supervision of the Chief, OB/GYN Clinic. MAJOR DUTIES 1. The primary purpose of this job is to provide a Medical Officer who is board certified /eligible in OB/GYN to carry a full range of cases, including the most difficult in the specialty, and provide consultative services to other staff members on difficult OB/GYN cases, and also to other non-OBGYN providers in the hospital. Complicated cases requiring treatment or services for which existing hospital facilities are not adequate are referred to other civilian or military medical facilities. Examines, diagnoses, treats or prescribes course of treatment for OB/GYN patients including those of an unusually complex and difficult nature. Ascertains immediate needs as deemed necessary. Performs surgical procedures and assists in Operating Room (OR) under minimal supervision of the Chief, Obstetrics/Gynecology Service, guiding and directing the assisting medical officer, nurse anesthetist and nurses. Performs advanced colposcopy and treatment of dysplasia on OB/GYN patients. Instructs and supervises other ancillary personnel in the care and treatment of patients. Administers and prescribes medicine and treatment. Records medical data or case history on prescribed Army Medical Department forms as required. Reviews and studies medical history and progress of patients. Responds to obstetrical and gynecological emergencies as the team leader, often requiring significant coordination between nursing, anesthesia, and pediatric providers. 2. Exercises consultative responsibility of a high level of professional competence in the specialty areas of OB/GYN. Serves as a consultant in OB/GYN to other medical officers, primarily on the more complicated OB/GYN cases. Available on call to advise medical officers of procedures to be followed in the care and treatment of difficult cases, and to answer questions of ward personnel regarding management of hospitalized OB/GYN patients. Responds to OB/GYN calls in house and provides back up call for other obstetricians and Midwives. 3. Participates in didactic and clinical teaching of Family Practice residents rotating in the OB/GYN Clinic Performs minor surgical procedures in the clinic. Maintains an unrestricted license to practice medicine. Obtains appropriate number of CME’S and stays current with published literature. 4. In the absence of the Chief. Responsible for overall operation of the OB/GYN department. Provides technical oversight of staff personnel to include physicians, mid-level providers, medical personnel, and/or other professional/non-professional personnel. Guides and directs the work of all professional/non-professional personnel (nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, interns/residents, technicians, contractors, etc.) during assigned shift or in the absence of regular supervisor. Participates in and completes administrative tasks as assigned by the Chief, Department of OB/GYN to include but not limited to scheduling of providers, APEQS and MHS Learn Training, QI/OA, monthly departmental staff meetings, risk management, credentialing, and Operations & Training committees and other areas of responsibility as assigned by the Chief, Department of OB/GYN. Under provision of the OB/GYN Department Chief, provides guidance on broad policies and overall objectives of the OB/GYN department; Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees; Give advice, counsel, and instruct employees on both work and administrative matters. Develop performance plans and evaluate work performance of subordinate employees; Interview candidates for subordinate positions; recommend hiring, promotion, or reassignments; Approves leaves; Effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases; Identify developmental and training needs of employees; provide and/or arrange for needed development and training. PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED. **Qualifications** Basic Requirements: US Citizenship required Board Certified/Eligible Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country). Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
