**Overview** **About the Position:** This position is located at Darnell Army Medical Center, Dept of Medicine Neurology Service, Fort Hood, Texas. Fort Cavazos is a United States Army post located in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. The post is named after Gen. Richard E. Cavazos, a native Texan and the US Army’s first Hispanic four-star general. Formerly named Fort Hood for Confederate General John Bell Hood, the post is located halfway between Austin and Waco, about 60 mi from each, within the U.S. state of Texas. The post is the headquarters of III Armored Corps and First Army Division West and is home to the 1st Cavalry Division and 3rd Cavalry Regiment, among others. Its origin was the need for wide-open space to test and train with World War II tank destroyers. The War Department announced the location in January 1942, and the initial completion was set for that August. For more information, please visit the following link: https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/benefits/ Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment. **This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.** **Who May Apply: US Citizens** **Responsibilities** + Serves as a board-certified physician on the Neurology Service, responsible for the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of the full range of outpatients seen in the clinic and inpatients seen on the consult and ward services. + Performs medical duties in an outpatient clinic with an emphasis on migraine management including chemo denervation techniques. + Directs and supervises care for patients with primary neurological disorders requiring hospitalization. + Consults with other hospital services caring for inpatients (including the critically ill) with neurological conditions + Examines patients, orders, and evaluates the full range of electrophysiology, radiology, and laboratory tests + Makes referrals for appropriate urgent issues, and decompensation of chronic neurologic conditions. + Evaluates and treats patients with multiple complicated problems who were screened and referred by the Emergency Room for urgent or emergent neurologic issues. + Performs Other Duties as Assigned. **Qualifications** **Who May Apply: US Citizens** In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency with your application package.) **Licensure:** Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. **Graduate Training:** Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. **In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:** **Residency, Experience, and Training** : Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Neurology) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least **4 years** . Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified. **If you are selected for a Physician position:** A salary quote will not be provided to you at the time of the initial job offer. This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary and this will be provided to you once approved.
