PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT - FULL TIME - WEST MICHIGAN SUD OFFICES
Join our mission‑driven nonprofit as a full‑time Physician Assistant supporting our Medication‑Assisted Treatment program in West Michigan. Work alongside a compassionate, multidisciplinary care team to provide whole‑person, recovery‑focused care—while enjoying a balanced schedule with 4 on-site days in our Grand Rapids and/or Holland Offices and 1 day working from your established home office.
Some duties:
Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive physical and mental health evaluations to determine eligibility for MAT, including substance use history, co-occurring medical conditions, and psychosocial factors.Medication Management: Prescribe, initiate, and adjust MAT medications such as buprenorphine, methadone, or naltrexone under supervision and in accordance with federal and state regulations.Monitoring and Follow-Up: Monitor patient progress through regular follow-up visits, assess medication efficacy, side effects, adherence, and address any complications related to treatment.Welcome to Samaritas Nation!

The Physician Assistant promotes and maintains health by providing psychiatric and medical services working with a participating physician in accordance with established guidelines. He/she is to participate with leadership for the medical oversight of the medical needs of SUD, Foster Care, New Americans and Adoptions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts physical examinations Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; providing counselling on emotional problems of daily living; promoting wellness and health maintenanceProvide patients with written prescription notes. Provide continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plansDocument patient care services by charting in patient and department recordsProvide leadership and guidance for the policies and growth of physical health servicesMaintain appropriate and necessary communication with staff regarding responses to orders implemented and changes in client condition Will evaluate and when appropriate prescribe MAT medication, including to but not limited to Buprenorphine and Vivitrol, under the direction of a waivered physician as part of an interdisciplinary treatment approach to substance use _________________________________________________________________________________
Job Qualifications
Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification
Master degree in PA studies or equivalent requiredPass the National Boards exam through the National Commission on Certifying Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and maintain current certificationMust possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan License as a Physician Assistant that is in good standingMust possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan DEA License with ability to prescribe MAT and Controlled Substance License that is in good standingWill acquire and maintain appropriate DEA waivered status to prescribe MATWill acquire and maintain appropriate training requirements applicable to MATPrior experience working with an interdisciplinary team is preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to apply commonsense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic formsKnowledge of various substances of abuse, the disease of addiction and signs and symptoms of detoxificationKnowledge of process and procedures to complete medical evaluations for youth and adolescentsAbility to use an Electronic Medical Record systemMust be able to function in an independent team setting, be flexible in attitude, and desire to provide holistic care for clientsAbility to understand and follow oral & written directionsGood interpersonal communication skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality with client, employee and organization informationAbility and willingness to work as part of a team in achieving common goalsAbility to work constructively with staff and other stakeholdersAbility to work effectively in a cross-cultural context. Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English.
