Physician Assistant - General Surgery 

Schedule: Full-Time | Hospital-Based Role | Surgical & Perioperative Care

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Physician Assistant with a strong foundation in General Surgery to join our surgical team. This role is ideal for a candidate with a minimum of 1–2 years of surgical experience, looking to leverage their expertise in a dynamic and high-acuity environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as first assist during general surgery procedures within the operating room. Deliver comprehensive preoperative and postoperative care, including hospital rounding. Conduct thorough patient evaluations, including history, physicals, and perioperative assessments. Coordinate care plans and surgical consults in collaboration with the attending surgeon. Perform bedside procedures such as wound care, drain removal, suturing, and staple removal. Educate and counsel patients and their families on surgical procedures and recovery. Work closely with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure optimal surgical outcomes. Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic health record (EHR). Engage in quality improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and patient safety efforts.

Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Board-Certified Physician Assistant with an active Alabama PA license or eligibility to obtain. BLS and ACLS certifications, or willingness to obtain them. Proven experience in general surgery or surgical subspecialties preferred. Strong OR first-assist capabilities and procedural competency. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills in a team environment.
