Position Highlights

Education
High school diploma or equivalentCompletion of a donor phlebotomy program accredited by The Joint Commission or College of American Pathologists (CAP)Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or American Red CrossRegistered as a phlebotomist with the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT)Experience
Minimum of 12 months of phlebotomy experience after graduation within the past 36 monthsImmunization Requirements (Must be current or able to obtain):
Hepatitis B (series and titer)Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)Varicella (Chickenpox)Tuberculosis (TB) testCurrent Influenza (flu) vaccineCOVID-19 vaccine (if applicable)Key Responsibilities
Perform standard and special phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture, fingerstick, and heel-stick techniquesIn-process patients, review documentation, and provide guidance throughout specimen collectionAssemble and prepare phlebotomy equipment according to procedure requirementsInterview donors, take vital signs, and draw/test blood for donor screeningTrain and supervise new staff or volunteers in phlebotomy proceduresMaintain cleanliness and inventory of the phlebotomy area; document all samples per SOPEducate patients on specimen collection procedures and requirementsConduct CLIA-waived tests (e.g., pregnancy tests) per FDA and lab standardsEnsure compliance with military and laboratory regulations (AABB, CAP, CLIA, JCAHO)Assist in all aspects of mobile blood drives, including setup, donor registration, blood collection, and site breakdownMonitor donors for reactions and initiate emergency procedures if necessaryPerform donor apheresis, blood processing, labeling, inventory, and shipmentWhy Work with USGP
