Phlebotomist Summary The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing high‑quality specimen collection, supporting daily workflow, troubleshooting issues, assisting with training, and ensuring all procedures are executed efficiently and accurately. Position Responsibilities + Perform venipunctures, capillary punctures, and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) while providing clear and courteous explanations to patients. + Collect, label, and store specimens according to established protocols and test requirements. + Match laboratory requisition forms or electronic orders with specimen tubes to ensure 100% accuracy. + Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and butterfly needles. + Centrifuge, split, freeze, and prepare specimens according to test specifications. + Package specimens safely and appropriately for transport while maintaining specimen integrity. + Update patient information and maintain accurate documentation. + Record maintenance logs and perform required decontamination of work areas. + Understand all physician orders and ensure proper test collection. + Answer phone calls and relay laboratory results when appropriate. + Maintain compliance with OSHA, DEP, and all safety and regulatory guidelines. + Attend required annual departmental training sessions. Minimum Qualifications + Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on venipuncture experience in a fast‑paced hospital or laboratory setting. + High School Diploma or GED. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer systems.
