The Phlebotomist provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. Their ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort to patients across a wide demographic is critical to our commitment to high-quality care for our patients and those of our partners.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand and execute all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and follow specific protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimens.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Wear appropriate attire.Attend annual department trainings.Handle telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to provide information as needed.Essential Skills2-3 years of experience in drawing blood.Expertise in phlebotomy, including blood draws and using straight needles.Ability to perform infant and pediatric draws.Strong administrative skills with attention to detail.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with specimen processing is beneficial.Work EnvironmentThe position involves travel within the state, covering Mount Vernon, Portchester, White Plains, Yonkers, and Bronx. The home office is located at 107 W 4th St, Mount Vernon, New York. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm, and every other Saturday, 9am-2pm. The role offers a dynamic work environment for those who enjoy a change of scenery.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
