Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position requires experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination, as well as updating patient information.
Responsibilities
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously.Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.Comprehend and execute all physician orders accurately.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Essential Skills
2+ years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital environment with a diverse patient demographic, including pediatric to geriatric.Strong customer service skills.Ability to work off-shift.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Hospital experience is a must.Preference for experience in heel sticks, though not required.Work Environment
The position is based in a hospital setting with a busy schedule, requiring 25 to 30 draws daily, depending on hospital occupancy. The role involves extensive walking and standing, with visits to patient rooms using a 20-pound push cart with phlebotomy supplies. The work is conducted within a team setting, with training provided on-site for approximately two weeks
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.75 - $22.00/hr.
