Job Description

The phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining quality blood samples through various methods such as capillary, venous, assisted line, and arterial collections. This role requires strict adherence to regulatory requirements and collection procedures, ensuring safety and accuracy for all age groups.

Responsibilities

Provide rapid response to medical emergencies.Work alternating between two hospital campuses, covering general patient care areas, pediatrics, the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, and Operating Rooms.Ensure accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, handling, transportation, and testing using Point of Care (POC) equipment.Maintain patient confidentiality and utilize excellent customer relations and communication skills.Interact professionally with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction.Demonstrate a positive and professional demeanor.Work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.Possess skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment, including organization, prioritization, attention to detail, problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making.Assist with training students and new employees.Be physically able to push a cart and walk distances.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.Medical laboratory testing expertise.Certification as MLT/MT/Phlebotomist (e.g., NHA, ASCP).Experience working in inpatient settings.Effective independent and teamwork skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.Phlebotomy certification required.Graduate of a phlebotomy training program or 3 months of phlebotomy experience.Customer service experience preferred.Inpatient/hospital experience preferred.

Work Environment

This position involves working at St Mary's Lab Services with six openings available. Three positions are Monday to Friday, 6AM-2:30PM, including every other weekend rotation, and three positions are Monday to Friday, 10PM-6:30AM, with an every other weekend rotation. The role is part of a contract with the intention of long-term commitment and potential transition to permanent status based on performance. This is a Contract position based out of Rochester, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
