Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist with various tasks, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves performing blood draws, labeling and centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating, updating patient information, and more. The phlebotomist must collect and store specimens according to established procedures and explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens. + Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment. + Update patient information and collect specimens following established procedures. + Explain specimen collection processes clearly and courteously. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. + Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required. + Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. + Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature storage. + Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department trainings. + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. + Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + High School Diploma or GED. + Experience with pediatric and geriatric drawings. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience working with pediatric and geriatric patients. + Ability to work in a team of four phlebotomists. + Knowledge of laboratory procedures and protocols. Work Environment The work environment is a fast-paced laboratory setting operating Monday through Friday from 7 am to 4 pm. The position involves drawing approximately 35 patients daily, including pediatrics and geriatrics, in collaboration with a team of four phlebotomists. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Summerville, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $20.00/hr.
