Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously, including blood drawing and other specimen collection such as urine or fecal samples.Demonstrate proper techniques using straight and/or butterfly needles.Understand and follow all physician orders accurately.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script 100%.Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature in the appropriate collection container/tube.Accurately label and follow procedures specific to protocol to maintain specimen integrity during transport.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department training sessions.Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (required in some states).Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.High School Diploma or GED.

Work Environment

This position is based in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. The role requires adherence to specific protocols and procedures to maintain specimen integrity and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Greensboro, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.50/hr.
