Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in various duties including troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements. This position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture clearly to patients, and ensuring compliance with physicians' orders.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
+ Centrifuge and store specimens according to test requirements.
+ Update patient information and maintain data records.
+ Explain the specimen collection process to patients in a courteous manner.
+ Demonstrate proficiency with straight and butterfly needles.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Ensure all test requisitions match scripts for 100% accuracy.
+ Package and prepare specimens for transport, maintaining specimen integrity.
+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department training sessions.
+ Answer phone calls and provide laboratory results to inquiries.
Essential Skills
+ Phlebotomy certification (state-specific where required).
+ Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ 0-2 years of relevant experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Strong customer service skills.
+ Flexibility in work duties and schedule.
+ Comfort with drawing alone and handling challenging venipuncture cases.
+ Experience in specimen collection and laboratory procedures.
Work Environment
The Phlebotomist will work in a doctor's office specializing in infectious diseases, catering to patients aged 21 and over. The work schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM, and Thursday from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM. The role requires standing for most of the shift with a one-hour lunch break. The work is conducted independently, with no more than 20 blood draws required daily. Initial orientation and training will occur over the first two weeks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
