SUMMARY:
We’re seeking an experienced Pharmacy Account Director to lead growth, retention, and profitability for Cigna’s Integrated Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) business across the East Region. In this role, you’ll own strategy and execution for existing Select and U3000 middle‑market clients while leading a high‑performing team of Pharmacy Account Executives and Clinical Account Managers.
The Account Director will partner closely with medical sales, underwriting, and cross‑functional teams to deliver competitive pharmacy solutions, deepen client relationships, and drive strong financial and client satisfaction outcomes. The Account Director will play a critical role in shaping integrated pharmacy strategy, influencing product direction, and delivering measurable value for clients—while leading a team that directly impacts growth and client outcomes across a key region.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Own and execute regional pharmacy growth, retention, and margin strategies aligned to P&L goals
Lead, coach, and develop a team of client‑facing pharmacy subject matter experts
Drive client retention through competitive pricing strategies and consultative partnerships
Expand pharmacy carve‑in adoption for middle‑market clients using external PBMs
Partner with medical sales teams to identify upsell opportunities that improve affordability and health outcomes
Assess market dynamics and provide insights on product development and competitive strategy
Oversee service delivery, resolve escalations, and ensure a strong client experience
Build trusted advisor relationships with clients, brokers, and consultants
Communicate performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership
QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE A COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING:
8+ years of client‑facing experience within a PBM environment
Proven leadership experience managing large, cross‑functional teams
Strong financial acumen with deep understanding of pharmacy pricing and utilization drivers
3–5 years of healthcare strategy or business development experience
Ability to influence senior stakeholders and navigate complex organizations
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
Bachelor’s degree required; PharmD, RPh, MBA, or Master’s degree preferred
Locations: NC, SC, VA, MD, PA, OH, or Washington, D.C.
Travel: Up to 30%
If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 167,300 - 278,800 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
