Personal Trainer I /II (Swim Center)
Job Summary

The Rockville Swim and Fitness Center is seeking a dynamic, skilled and customer oriented Personal Trainer to assume duties in providing one on and one and group fitness training to facility customers. This part-time (non-benefits eligible) position is anticipated to work 5-30 hours per week between a combination of personal training, group exercise classes and floor training assignments. Growth potential up to 30 hours per week exists based on client demand. See below for pay rates associated with each assignment. The successful candidate must be available for a flexible work schedule. Current hiring needs include a trainer who has experience and interest in designing and leading individualized exercise programs for a wide array of customers including but not limited to those with pre/post physical therapy needs, weight loss, cardiovascular health, athletic performance and strength and conditioning goals. Work is performed under the supervision of the Program Specialist and subject to general policies and procedure direction as well as evaluation by observation of work and customer surveys. Essential Job Functions

Promotes the personal training department by assisting members in the fitness center and conducting consultations for prospective clientsPlans for and performs safe and effective training sessions with clients in accordance with current trends in Exercise Science and RSFC protocol, with tasks including but not limited to:Demonstrating exercises and routines to clients.Assisting clients in exercises to minimize injury and promote fitness.Modify exercises according to clients’ fitness levels.Monitoring and document client progress.Motivate and encourage clients through the training process.Providing information or resources on general fitness and health issues.Attends staff training, completes administrative duties and paperwork as required.Enforces the rules and regulations of the fitness center and provides general customer service.Responsible for maintaining a safe environment and performing minor maintenance and repairs to fitness equipment and surrounding areas. Provide emergency first aid if necessary.Teaches group fitness classes (a minimum of one class per week) in accordance with
established course descriptions and/or curriculum.May function as a mentor to less experienced staff and is able to teach specialized courses as directed by the supervisor.Helps with planning and implementing programs; assists with class area set-up and clean-up and facility maintenance.On an as needed basis, conducts research on physical fitness trends, new program opportunities and training protocols.Work a minimum of two and a maximum of ten floor hours per week, as scheduled by the Supervisor.Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must hold a nationally accredited Personal Training certification (ACSM, NSCA, NASM, AFAA, or ACE preferred) and have a current CPR/AED and First Aid certification. Additional certifications or degrees in the field of Exercise Science are recommended. Knowledge of Microsoft Office a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
Comprehensive knowledge of instructing one on one personal training and group physical fitness programs. Experience working with a variety of client populations and/or in a similar facility is preferred.Personal Trainer I: Six months experience as a Personal Trainer and/or Group Fitness Instructor preferred.Personal Trainer II: A minimum of two years ‘experience as a personal trainer with experience training special populations.EDUCATION:
High school graduate or above. Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Sports Medicine or another related field preferred for Personal Trainer II.

COMPENSATION HIRING RANGES:
Personal Training Sessions: $30.00-$42.00 per hour
Group Fitness Instruction: $25.00-$42.00 per hour
Fitness Room Attendant and Administrative Time: $17.65 per hour
*Note: Benefits (except for Sick and Safe Leave pursuant to Maryland Healthy Working Families Act) are not available with this position and hours worked will be assigned based on operational needs. Employees in this classification may not work greater than 1560 hours in a 12-month period.
