Major Responsibilities:
Provides safe operation of extra-corporeal perfusion equipment during open-heart procedures and liver transplants.Provides long-term cardiac and/or respiratory support for compromised patients via ECMO support or centrifugal ventricular support.Provides short-term cardiopulmonary support during open heart procedures.Performs rapid infusion, cardioplegia administration, hemoconcentration, hemodiafiltration, and modified ultrafiltration.Stands by during certain catherization lab procedures and surgical procedures.Ensures proper assembly, set up and priming of all perfusion equipment for use in various environments including: operating room, catherization lab, and intensive care units.Procures platelet gel according to industry standards.Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
