**Per Diem Travel Sheet Metal Mechanic (contract position located in Newport News, VA)**
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic with extensive experience in both commercial and naval sheet metal work. This role involves working in the installation of foundations, ventilation systems, bulkheads, shipboard furniture, and engaging in sheet metal fabrication shop tasks.
Responsibilities
+ Install and fabricate sheet metal components including foundations, ventilation, bulkheads, and shipboard furniture.
+ Interpret and comprehend complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, and reference lines.
+ Layoff piece parts for fabrication and assembly with precision.
+ Assemble piece parts in accordance with specifications, maintaining high-quality standards.
+ Operate in a physically demanding environment, adhering to OSHA regulations applicable to the shipbuilding industry.
+ Utilize small hand tools such as electric drills, grinders, and rivet guns, as well as shop equipment like drill presses and press brakes.
Essential Skills
+ Four years of experience as a first-class Sheet Metal Worker in commercial or naval settings.
+ Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex drawings and blueprints.
+ Ability to comprehend fractional and decimal dimensions using a ruler.
+ Experience in a physically demanding work environment.
+ Familiarity with OSHA regulations related to shipbuilding.
+ Skill in using small hand tools and shop equipment.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $27.31/hr.
