Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Payroll Tax Accountant to ensure payroll tax compliance for 12 legal entities across approximately 2,000 jurisdictions in 44 states. This role involves complex reconciliation work and responding to a high volume of tax notices, requiring precision and expertise in payroll tax allocations.

Responsibilities

Reconcile Payroll Taxes: Oversee accurate payroll tax filings after each pay run and reconcile tax service provider reports with the payroll system.Quarterly & Year-End Filings: Ensure timely and accurate quarterly payroll tax filings and support W-2/W-2C preparation and issuance.General Ledger Alignment: Reconcile payroll and payroll tax accounts to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.IRS & State Compliance: Compare payroll reports to IRS Form 941 and state/local returns, research discrepancies, and file amended returns as needed.SUI Rate & Account Management: Maintain accurate State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rates, register new state/local accounts, and manage jurisdiction changes.Tax Notice Resolution: Respond to and resolve payroll tax notices from federal, state, and local agencies quickly and effectively.Cross-Functional Coordination: Partner with Payroll, HR, and Finance to ensure seamless data flow for tax setup on new hires, terminations, and employee transfers.Data Integrity: Validate new hires against correct local taxing authorities and audit system configurations regularly.Historical Research: Investigate and reconcile prior-period payroll tax issues, preparing clear documentation of findings and resolutions.Support & Leadership: Serve as the in-house subject matter expert on payroll taxes and provide guidance to payroll staff on complex tax matters.

Essential Skills

Payroll tax expertise.Strong ADP software experience.Experience with multi-jurisdiction and multi-local payroll tax.2+ years of payroll tax experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in the staffing, security, or similar multi-location environment is preferred.Extensive experience managing U.S. multi-state payroll taxes in a high-volume organization.Advanced knowledge of ADP and major payroll systems.Strong reconciliation, research, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work under tight deadlines at quarter-end and year-end.CPA, CPP, or similar credential preferred.

This position is fully remote, offering the flexibility of working standard business hours.

This is a Contract position based out of Saint Louis, Missouri.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $45.00/hr.
