Job Title: Payroll Accountant

Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Payroll Accountant to join our team on a temporary basis. This role is responsible for performing account reconciliations, supporting month-end close processes, and handling payroll-related tasks for approximately 850 employees. The ideal candidate will have experience with Workday Payroll ERP systems and a strong experience in payroll accounting.

Responsibilities

Perform account reconciliations.Support month-end close processes.Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.Generate and format payroll reports required for payroll processing before the pay period and submission deadline.Ensure accurate deduction and payroll tax calculations.Complete other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

Minimum of 2 years of payroll accounting experience.Proficiency in payroll reconciliation.Experience with journal entries and general ledger posting.Month-end close experience.Ability to process payroll for 850 employees.Proficiency in Workday Payroll ERP system.Skill in handling benefit, garnishment, and tax deductions.Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with cloud-based payroll systems, particularly Workday.Strong customer service skills, especially in handling difficult situations.Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred.Familiarity with Oracle ERP.Previous government work experience is a plus.

Work Environment

This position offers a hybrid work environment, requiring one day a week in the office after the initial week of training. The work schedule is flexible, with hours from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, and an earliest start time of 7 AM or latest start time of 8:30 AM. The team is small, consisting of two members including the manager, and is responsible for processing payroll for 850 employees. The culture is team-oriented and supportive, with a high level of direct communication. Dress code is professional attire.

This is a Contract position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.55 - $42.08/hr.
