**DESCRIPTION**
The **Payroll Accountant** is responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant and timely payroll and benefits related accounting for a large, multi-entity, multi-state organization with associates across the United States and Canada. This role focuses on payroll account reconciliations, journal entries, benefits accounting/reconciliation, assisting with payroll tax reconciliation, and supporting internal/external audits. The Payroll Accountant will partner closely with Payroll Operations, Total Rewards, and Finance to maintain data integrity, strengthen internal controls, and support month-end and year-end close.
The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background proven payroll experience, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume processing environment.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Reconcile employee benefit accounts and coordinate with HR/Total Rewards teams to resolve discrepancies.
+ Reconcile benefit vendor invoices to payroll deductions and coordinate resolution of discrepancies with HR/Total Rewards.
+ Reconcile payroll, benefit, payroll tax, and related general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of variances.
+ Document payroll adjustments for accounting journal entries.
+ Support payroll tax reconciliations, including quarter-end and year-end filings (W-2, T4, T2200, etc. if applicable.
+ Support month-end and year-end close through reporting, analysis, and timely delivery of required schedules.
+ Prepare payroll and benefits accounting reports for Finance and Corporate Accounting teams.
+ Maintain documentation to ensure SOX/internal control compliance.
+ Run and analyze ad hoc payroll and accounting reports as needed.
+ Collaborate with Payroll, HR and Finance teams to ensure data integrity and compliance with company policies and GAAP.
+ Other duties as assigned by Sr Manager Payroll Tax.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
+ 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, including payroll accounting and related functions.
+ Proficiency in journal entry preparation and month-end close activities.
+ Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and payroll accounting processes.
+ Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
+ Experience with ERP or payroll systems (e.g., UKG, ADP, Oracle,) preferred.
+ Familiarity with benefit accounting and payroll tax concepts.
+ Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
+ Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
