Patient Care Technician- Stroke/Telemetry

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Tech (PCT) for a full-time, night shift position in Suffolk, VA on our Surgical Unit!

Hours: 7PM to 7AM. Three 12-hour shifts (36-hours per week), with rotating weekends.

Department/Position Overview: 

The Stroke/Telemetry Unit at Sentara Obici Hospital provides care for patients with cardiac conditions including heart failure, cardiac rhythm disturbances, newly implanted permanent pacemakers and defibrillators, post- coronary interventions, post-ablation, myocardial infarctions. 2 South also cares for pre/post catheterization, acute stroke, and post procedural neuro cases. This 25-bed unit sees a ratio of 1:5 with mixed patient acuity levels. Patient Care Techs assist with a ratio of 1:8 on average. This is a well-supported team, great for both new grad and experienced Registered Nurses seeking to advance their skills in cardiac areas. Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing.

Education:

HS – High School Grad or Equivalent

One of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

​Certifications/Licensure:

AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

One year of health care experience is preferred.
