**Description**
Information Technology Interns within Caterpillar Excavation Division perform the same challenging work assignments as our new full-time hires. We work with our teams to ensure that every intern gains the appropriate professional and personal growth necessary to be successful in a corporate environment. This position is a great way to gain hands-on experience by supporting IT operations at a world-leading manufacturing company. As a Spring intern, you will work approximately 20 hours a week. Summer 2026 interns will work 40 hours a week from May 18th, 2026 to August 7, 2026.
**What You Will Do**
You’ll join a team with diverse project responsibilities and have valuable networking opportunities with all levels of Caterpillar employees. You can focus on building professional abilities in roles including (but not limited to):
+ Assist in the development, testing, and implementation of digital analytics and business intelligence solutions, including Power BI dashboards, data models, and automated reporting.
+ Support the team with data quality troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and resolving issues across digital platforms and analytics tools.
+ Participate in the maintenance, optimization, and upgrade of data pipelines, analytics environments, and digital systems.
+ Help in the creation of technical documentation, data dictionaries, process flows, and user guides for analytics and digital tools, including Power BI assets.
**What You Have – Skills and Experiences**
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute your unique skills and experiences. Below are some of the most critical skills:
+ Knowledge of one or more programming languages such as Python, SQL, Java, C++, or JavaScript, with an interest in applying them to data and analytics workflows.
+ Familiarity with Power BI for building dashboards, creating data models, and visualizing insights, as well as cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Snowflake, Azure, Google Cloud).
+ Ability to organize and manage multiple analytics or digital projects simultaneously, with a strong capacity to quickly learn and apply new technologies, tools, and methodologies.
+ Success in collaborating with cross‑functional teams, stakeholders, and individuals from diverse cultures, interpersonal styles, and technical backgrounds.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in explaining technical or analytical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
+ Commitment to participating in, and building on, our inclusive, constructive, and productive work environment.
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Must be enrolled full-time at a 4-year accredited university/college in one of the following fields of study: Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics or any technical related degree at the time of application and throughout the program.
+ Must have 15 completed semester hours before the start of the internship.If a transfer student, must have 12 semester hours completed at a 4-year university.
+ Minimum 3.0/4.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (no rounding) at current institution.
**Top Candidates will also have**
+ Proficiency in analytics‑related software applications, programming languages, or digital technologies used for data processing, visualization, and system support.
+ Examples include: Power BI, SQL, Python, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), data modeling concepts, and foundational knowledge of networking or system tools such as Firewall management or IP Subnet planning.
+ Strong communication, teamwork, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate data findings into clear, actionable insights.
+ Strong problem‑solving and customer‑service skills, especially in supporting users, resolving data issues, and improving digital workflows.
**Area of open internship position:**
+ Analytics for Excavation Division
**Additional Information:**
+ You must live within 50 miles of the work location: Peoria, IL and work on-site up to 20 hours a week
+ Relocation is not available
+ Sponsorship is not available
**Summary Pay Range:**
$22.50 - $40.25
**Intern Hour Rate:**
An intern's hourly rate is based on the major/degree being pursued and the number of completed academic hours achieved before the start of the internship.
