No County Orange Street Address Sterling Forest State Park 116 Old Forge Road City Tuxedo State NY Zip Code 10987 Duties Description Under the general supervision of higher-level personnel, the incumbent will:• Perform maintenance on buildings, roads, and grounds.• Under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson, assist in performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical repairs.• Operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including pickup trucks, dump trucks, trailers, backhoes, skid-steers, snowplow vehicles and sanders, mowers, and other self-propelled equipment. • Assist in repairing roads, drainage ditches, and trails.• Assist with tree pruning and removal, operate chainsaws and chippers.• Complete snow removal by shoveling snow and operating plow vehicles in the winter months.• Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency practices and procedures.• Assign, supervise, review, train, and evaluate work of subordinate employees.• This position involves working from heights and ladders.• Communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.• Communicate in writing as well as read and comprehend written material. • Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in daily tasks. Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:• Law enforcement or security• Firefighting• Emergency Medical Services • Environmental education or stewardship• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)• Historic preservation or interpretation• Landscaping or grounds maintenance OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson. Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:• Must be able to work a variable schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.• Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.• Must be qualified and medically cleared to wear a respirator and adhere to safe working practices.• Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete OPRHP sawyer training or equivalent within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. This training will be provided by OPRHP. Location Pay:The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 9 ($42,641) and the Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($2,000).
