GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

As a flagship for Wyoming State Parks, Glendo welcomes around 500,000 visitors annually across 22,000 acres. You’ll lead a dedicated team in overseeing daily operations and setting a vision for the future of the park, which includes 20 campgrounds with over 530 campsites, five boat ramps, 40+ miles of multi-use trails, five public water systems, a wastewater treatment system, and 35 concession contracts.

The Park Superintendent is responsible for the protection and enhancement of Glendo’s natural and cultural resources. Key duties include engaging with the public, creating a positive and inclusive workplace, delivering exceptional visitor services, supervising staff, and managing budgets and park operations. The Park Superintendent plays a vital role in representing the park within the local community and supports department-wide initiatives. The position ensures compliance with state policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards to provide high-quality recreational and educational experiences, while maintaining strong environmental and fiscal stewardship.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
+ Leads through supervision, team building, training, coaching, collaboration, and overall vision.
+ Manages and oversees all aspects (budget, personnel, maintenance, and operations) of a large recreation-based state park with a large number of visitors.
+ Acts as agency liaison with other agencies and the general public, including community relations, friends groups, volunteers, state, federal, and municipal agencies, and other NGOs.
+ Assists the Concession and Revenue team with concessionaire operations and contracts.
+ Professionally promotes the park through excellent customer service, in person, in writing, and through social media.
+ Responsible for budget tracking, determining equipment and supply needs, purchasing equipment and supplies, calling for bids on select purchases, and conducting supply inventory.
+ Prepares daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports, and communicates with the public and other agencies.
+ Supervises and monitors the fee program and the collection and reporting of all funds.
+ Maintains site infrastructure, including water, wastewater systems, roads, facilities, grounds, boat ramps, and docks.
+ Is a leader in the district, providing support and collaboration with co-workers where needed.
+ Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
+ Coordinates with local, county, and state law enforcement, emergency, and fire personnel as needed.
+ Responsible for maintaining the highest level of compliance with state park rules and regulations to protect natural and cultural resources.
+ Conducts or seeks training to keep mandatory certification up to date.
+ Follows all State, Federal, and department policies.
+ Responsible for water and wastewater management and sanitation, and is aware of issues affecting public health and safety.
+ Utilizes computers and digital technology to create and submit reports, correspondence, files, traffic data, and images, as well as to communicate with other staff and agencies.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with at least two years of work experience in personnel management, including hiring, training, leading, and evaluating employees, and government budgeting and accounting.
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Knowledge of Law Enforcement procedures and techniques.
+ Knowledge of park management.
+ Knowledge of Government budgeting and accounting.
+ Knowledge of water systems and current EPA rules, operation, and maintenance.
+ Knowledge of construction trades pertaining to building and maintenance.
+ Knowledge of vehicle and construction equipment operation and maintenance.
+ Knowledge of fee collection procedures and accounting.
+ Knowledge of inter-agency and intra-agency communications
+ Skills in public speaking, report writing, intra- and inter-agency communication.
+ Skills in the construction, plumbing, and electrical trades as they pertain to the operation, management, and construction of new and older park facilities/structures.
+ Knowledge of and skills in grounds rehabilitation and maintenance practices associated with heavy-use recreation areas. Ability to troubleshoot problems with park facilities and structures, equipment, natural resources, and site amenities.
+ Proficient in operating and maintaining vehicles and heavy equipment.
+ Knowledge of weed and pest control practices and procedures.
+ Ability to professionally interact, communicate, and educate the visiting public and constituent groups.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Park Management)
Experience:
1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Park Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Parks Superintendent I
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Park Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Parks Superintendent I

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ Must be able to drive vehicles and operate cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment
+ May work outdoors in all weather conditions
+ Must be able to lift 50 lbs with or without accommodation
NOTES:
+ FLSA: Non-Exempt
+ Commercial pesticide applicator certification, First Aid & CPR, AED, and appropriate Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment, and are paid for by the Agency.
