Job Summary\n
Paramedics at Centralus Health Ambulance (CHT) play a vital role in advancing our mission to deliver high-quality, compassionate emergency medical care and transport services that strengthen the well-being of our communities. Paramedics provide advanced life support (ALS), comprehensive patient assessment, clinical decision-making, and emergency care under medical direction. Paramedics may also assist with interfacility and critical care transports, community paramedicine initiatives, and disaster response operations as directed. As a member of the CHT team, you will be part of a dynamic, mission-driven organization that values professionalism, teamwork, and personal accountability.\n
This position is physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding, requiring advanced clinical judgment, resilience, and a strong commitment to patient care. Paramedics must meet established functional standards and maintain readiness to respond to emergencies with competence and composure while managing complex medical and traumatic conditions. Each team member of the organization has responsibilities towards the organization. Education \/ Experience Qualifications\n
Required:\n\nGraduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED or similar), \nValid New York State Paramedic certification.\nValid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.\nValid American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.\nValid American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.\nPossess a NYS motor vehicle operator's license Class D or higher for at least the prior three years.\nComplete FEMA Independent Study Courses: IS-5.a, IS-100.c, IS-200.c, IS-700.b, IS-800.d (or most recent versions)\n\n
Preferred:\n\nExperience in a hospital-based or system-integrated EMS agency preferred.\nAssociate's degree;\nValid International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification;\nFEMA ICS-300 and ICS-400\n\n
Physical and Other Requirements\n
Any person desiring to become an Paramedic team member at CHT shall meet the following requirements:\n
Minimum Eligibility Requirements\n\nMust be at least eighteen (18) years of age.\nMaintain a driver rating of Acceptable or higher, as outlined in the Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) guideline (203.01.01.01).\nMaintain a Quality Assurance Status of Acceptable or Clear as outlined in the Quality Assurance (QA) Status guideline (203.01.01.01).\nMust not have any pending criminal charges that, if convicted, would prohibit employment or membership in the organization, or otherwise compromise the integrity or image of Centralus Health Ambulance.\n\n
Training and Professional Readiness Requirements\n\nSuccessfully complete an initial Member Training Program and probationary period.\nSuccessfully engage in continual Member Training and Annual Requalification as outlined in the Member Training and Annual Requalification guideline (205.01.01.04) for the level of service being provided to the community.\nMeet minimum hourly or shift requirements either on a monthly or quarterly basis as set forth by the Chief.\n\n
Communication and Cognitive Requirements\n\nAbility to communicate effectively via telephone, radio equipment, and in person.\nAbility to interpret oral, written, and diagnostic form instructions accurately.\nAbility to exercise sound judgment and remain calm in high-stress or emotionally charged situations.\nAbility to read and comprehend English-language materials, including manuals, maps, and medical documentation.\nAbility to accurately discern street signs, addresses, and environmental cues in varied conditions.\nAbility to interview patients, family members, and bystanders to obtain relevant medical and situational information.\nAbility to document all relevant information clearly and completely in the prescribed format, recognizing the legal significance of such records.\nAbility to converse effectively in English with coworkers, dispatchers, and hospital personnel regarding patient status and care.\n\n
Physical Requirements\n\nAbility to lift, carry, and balance up to one hundred twenty-five (125) pounds.\nPossess good manual dexterity with the ability to perform all assigned tasks with precision and care.\nAbility to bend, stoop, crawl, and maneuver safely on uneven terrain.\nAbility to function efficiently throughout an entire operational period without undue fatigue or interruption.\nAbility to work effectively in varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, moisture, and low-light situations.\nAbility to remain unaffected by loud noises, flashing lights, and other environmental stressors commonly encountered in emergency response settings.\n\n
Operational and Task Performance Requirements\n\nAbility to complete required tasks and special assignments as directed.\nAbility to adhere to all operational safety standards, infection control protocols, and departmental guidelines.\n\n
Administrative and Health Requirements\n\nAnnually submit a completed physician-signed Health and Wellness Attestation and updated immunization record in compliance with Centralus Health policy.\n\n
It shall be the team member's responsibility to notify the Director of EMS (Chief) in writing immediately, but no later than twenty-four (24) hours following any incident or situation that may make that member ineligible to provide care as outlined in this guideline. These incidents include, but are not limited to:\n\nPending charges as described in Requirements A(6) of this guideline\nSuspended or revoked certification\nQuality Assurance\/Improvement (QA\/QI) investigation at any other agency\nChanges to a Member's ability to perform as outlined in this guideline \n\n
Any team member or prospective team member who is unable to meet the minimum team member requirements may request reasonable accommodation. All requests should be made in writing and submitted to the Director of EMS (Chief) for review and consideration based on the assigned or potentially assigned role.\n
