Atrium Health MSKI Orthopedics & Sports Medicine – University is a high-performing practice comprised of board-certified orthopedic surgeons and a collaborative team of Advanced Practice Providers. As part of the Atrium Health MSKI network, this practice is embedded in a comprehensive musculoskeletal system that includes orthopedic subspecialists, non-operative sports medicine physicians, and MSK physiatry.
This role partners closely with community outreach athletic trainers supporting high school and collegiate athletics. Atrium Health proudly employs more than 100 athletic trainers across the region in support of the MSKI mission.
Position Overview
This position supports a surgical sports medicine physician and includes a blend of outpatient clinic and operating room responsibilities, with participation in a shared night and weekend call rotation. The APP functions as an integral member of the care team, supporting patients across the full continuum of care in both ambulatory and surgical settings.
Primary Responsibilities
• Provide direct patient care in the outpatient clinic and operating room
• Assist with pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative management
• Serve as first assistant in the operating room
• Conduct patient evaluations, follow-up visits, and care coordination
• Support attending physicians with call coverage and patient management
• Collaborate closely with orthopedic surgeons, athletic trainers, and the broader MSKI care team
• Maintain high standards of quality, safety, and patient experience
• Participate in night and weekend call rotation
Candidate Qualifications
• Prior orthopedic or sports medicine experience preferred
• Active North Carolina licensure (Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner)
• Must possess or be eligible for DEA licensure
• Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program required
• NCCPA certification (PA) or national board certification (Acute Care NP) preferred
