Optics Fabrication Technician (Temp-to-Hire)
Location: Boulder, CO
Pay Rate: $20–24/hour DOE
Shift Differential: Additional pay based on selected shift
1st Shift: Sunday – Wednesday | 6:00am – 4:30pm
2nd Shift: Sunday – Thursday | 3:30pm – 2:00am
2nd Shift: Monday – Thursday | 3:30pm – 2:00am
Weekend Day Shift: Friday – Sunday | 6:00am – 6:30pm
Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Optics Fabrication Technician to join our manufacturing team. This role focuses on the fabrication of precision optical components to strict customer specifications using a variety of optical fabrication processes. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity with strong potential for long-term growth, including cross-training and potential leadership responsibilities.
This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor or Production Manager.
Key ResponsibilitiesOptical FabricationFabricate precision optical components from initial print through finished product
Perform beveling, milling, blocking, grinding, polishing, curve generation, and inspection
Ensure all work meets customer and quality specifications
Quality & InspectionPerform detailed inspections, measurements, and in-process quality checks
Follow established quality procedures and documentation
Familiarity with quality or inspection processes is highly valued
Process ManagementMonitor and maintain fabrication conditions, including Baume and pH levels
Maintain clean and organized work areas to support consistent quality
Advanced Blocking & PolishingPerform precise blocking and polishing, including single test plates
Maintain tight tolerances and wedge control for high-quality finishes
Process ImprovementIdentify opportunities to improve fabrication steps, efficiency, and quality
Provide suggestions to support continuous improvement initiatives
Training & MentorshipSupport and mentor junior technicians as needed
Assist with training on techniques, equipment, and best practices
Potential to lead projects or initiatives as experience grows
Additional DutiesPerform other tasks as assigned to support departmental goals
QualificationsEducation: High School Diploma or GED required
Experience: Optics or fabrication experience preferred; quality or inspection experience a plus
