Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** Creates systems that manipulate and control light. Works on a wide range of applications, from designing lenses for cameras to developing cutting-edge optical technologies for various industries, including telecommunications, healthcare, and aerospace. Ensures optical systems meet specific performance and quality standards. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS** + Models and designs optical components, systems, and devices based on system requirements. Generates and maintains related drawings, specifications, and design documents. + Develops alignment processes, including automated alignment procedures, for high power laser assemblies. + Develops and implements test plans for validating optical assemblies, components, and laser system test plans. Performs testing, generates test reports, and ensures high level requirements are met. + Performs advance calibrations and rebuilds operational hardware to support shot operations. + Other duties as assigned. **MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE** + Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics and 3 years of relevant experience required + Or equivalent combination of education and experience + Experience with lasers, preferably laser diodes required + Experience with automated alignment processes, like pick-and-place robotic equipment, preferably for optical or semiconductor components required **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES** + A strong foundation in mathematics and physics as well as an inquisitive and analytical mind. + Ability to develop data collection and database interface and integration into manufacturing execution system. + High level of competency with modelling of optical systems. (Zemax highly preferred) + Ability to develop optical alignment tooling and procedures.
