Operations Technician – Dirty, Outdoor Work + Rotating Shift

Location: Norfolk, VA (On‑Site)

Type: Contract‑to‑Hire

Pay: $19/hr

Schedule:

This is not a standard shift job. After training, you’ll work a 6‑week rotating cycle of 12‑hour day and night shifts, including weekends and holidays. If you need a predictable Monday–Friday schedule, this is not the right fit.

Work Environment:

This is a dirty, fully outdoor job involving dust, debris, weather exposure, and physical labor every day.

About the Role

Operations Technicians support and maintain mechanical sampling systems used in bulk material terminals. The work is hands‑on, physical, and requires comfort working in dirty, dusty, and weather‑affected conditions. Accuracy, dependability, and safety are essential.

What You’ll DoClean interior and exterior components of mechanical sampling systems using air, water, and hand/power tools.Remove buildup, debris, and residue from equipment, walkways, platforms, grounds, tools, and vehicles.Monitor equipment during operation and downtime to identify issues or performance changes.Record sample ratios, weights, tonnages, and equipment parameters with accuracy.Track loading sequences and document findings clearly.Follow lockout/tagout procedures when required.Work rotational day/night shifts, including weekends and holidays.Perform additional tasks to support system reliability and site cleanliness.What You BringAbility to work outdoors in all weather (heat, cold, rain, wind).Comfortable with walking, standing, climbing ladders/stairs, and working on uneven surfaces.Strong dependability and follow‑through.Ability to read instructions and complete accurate documentation.Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, email) and basic math.High safety awareness.Preferred SkillsExperience with hand tools or basic mechanical work.Familiarity with industrial environments.Understanding of lockout/tagout.Why This Role Stands OutContract‑to‑hire with long‑term stability.Once hired full‑time, employees receive:100% employer‑paid medicalDental & visionPTO (40 hours first year; 80 hours after two years)9 paid holidaysPaid parental leave5% retirement matchWork with a team focused on safety and equipment reliability.Work EnvironmentFully outdoor environment with exposure to extreme temperatures.Dirty, dusty conditions requiring PPE.Frequent climbing, kneeling, and navigating uneven terrain.Training & ScheduleTraining Period (Approx. 90 Days)

Rotating Schedule After Training

A repeating 6‑week cycle:

Start on Days Front half of the week – work 6 weeks on Days Front (Sun - Wed) 7AM - 7PM

Move to Days Back half of the week – work 6 weeks on Days Back (Wed - Sat) 7AM to 7PM

Move to Nights Back half of the week – work 6 weeks on Nights Back (Wed - Sat) 7PM - 7AM

Move to Nights Front half of the week – work 6 weeks on Nights Front (Sun - Wed) 7PM - 7AM

Move to Days Front half of the week – work 6 weeks on Days Front (Sun - Wed) 7AM - 7PM

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
