Job Description

Technical Operations is an organization within NBCUniversal providing technical and operational services across the complete NBCUniversal content management, fulfillment and distribution ecosystem. We ensure that each of our networks, shows and films are reliably delivered to every screen around the world 24/7/365. We manage a best-in-class operation, leading the industry with our scalable, reliable, geo-diverse operation. The Technical Operations’ team in Stamford, CT manages playout and monitoring for NBCUniversal’s Domestic Cable Sports, News, and Entertainment channels. We also provide a full hot/hot disaster recovery for the NBC and Telemundo Broadcast networks. The Operations Supervisors are true subject matter experts in a dynamic broadcast environment. Operations Supervisors drive 99.999% on-air reliability for all channels and work as a team to get compelling content to viewing platforms across the world.

Responsibilities:

Supervise a shift of on-air cable operations for ~10 networks (including ~30 distribution channels) and Peacock streaming eventsMonitor and maintain satellite, fiber, and terrestrial distribution streamsEnsure the reliability of on-air schedules in a fast-paced environment, and work to maintain 99.999% on-air availability and reliability for all channelsManage daily maintenance events in the NOCEnsure proper scheduling and supervise a shift of technical operators in live and taped events across Sports, News, and EntertainmentFacilitate day-of-air issue resolution between all NBCU departments (including Sales Ops, Engineering, Programming, On-Air Scheduling and Promotions)Act as the point of contact to brand leaders to coordinate daily schedules and broadcast executionLead operational triaging and documentation for issues affecting the on-air operationDevelop and distribute detailed scheduling plans and transmission information for live eventsMaintain and assist in the creation of new SOPs and GuidelinesPerform live event transmission tasks including fax-through and fiber bookingsLead the execution of live events on Peacock and all Sports, News, and Entertainment networks such as Olympics, WWE, MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, Golf, Watch What Happens Live, and Premiere League soccerManage the execution and decision-making for all live events, including in-event issue resolution and off-air adjustments, including, but not limited to schedule slides, join in progress and leave in progressServe as decision-maker for the execution of all contingency situations for live eventsServe as the point of contact for same-day Record/Turnarounds process to ensure reliable records and playbacksSupport NBC Broadcast Network and Telemundo’s 24x7 disaster recovery operationAssist with project management related to operational improvementsContinue to exceed expectations in on-air reliability and customer service for all NOC clientelePerform all other duties to support the success of the Network Operations Center as assigned by manager and follow company rules and policies

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: 

BA/BS in a related field or equivalent work experience2+ years of experience in a broadcast operations environment

Desired Characteristics:

3+ years in a leadership role in a fast-paced environment requiring troubleshooting and processing skills, plus an ability to effectively lead, prioritize and adapt to changing scenariosExtensive and significant experience, understanding and knowledge of digital broadcast and production technical systems, standards and processesTechnical experience with automated, real-time systems, digital video and audio, troubleshooting and test techniquesExtensive knowledge of digital broadcast and production technical systems, standards and processesExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsBasic understanding of workplace staffing rules and experience in off-hours scheduling of personnelA track record of meeting or exceeding performance expectations
